Blue Mistflower (Conoclinium coelestinum) is a herbaceous lowlying perennial wildflower that hosts lovely periwinkle blue downy blossoms in the summer well into October, emerging like a fog or mist of blue as it spreads in stands of 2 feet in moist soil with partial shade to full shade.

CONDITIONS

Blue Mistflower (Conoclinium coelestinum) enjoys moist lowlying areas with partial to even full shade. Mistflower is a tolerant plant and can also live in medium dry soils which can range from loamy to sandy to clay.

BENEFITS

Spreads aggressively through seed and rhizomes once established. Attractive to pollinators including bees moths and butterflies. Easy to maintain. May have spiritual value for opening doors and pathways. Grows 1-3 feet but stays close to ground. Flowers are stunning well into October. Perennial. Studies have also shown that the mistflower has high antioxidant properties due to high levels of alkaloids, which are poisonous. Male Queen Butterflies draw nectar from Mistflowers, which no doubt protects the male Butterflies from predators, and more intricately, serves upon some chemical alteration as a sex attractant to draw the female and her eggs poisonous to pests.  

CARE

You will receive a plant with several sets of leaves and established roots. Dig a hole at least as deep as the root ball and space 1-2 feet apart.
